Wanda Baker
1/21/1938 – 2/13/2022
Mrs. Wanda Lou Baker passed away February 13, 2022 at her home surrounded by family
following a long and courageous battle to recover her health. Wanda was born January 21,
1938 to Bruce and Jewell Taylor in Alicia, Arkansas.
Wanda met and married Floyd J. Baker in Mississippi on February 23, 1952. Floyd actually
professed his love and intentions on their first meeting as he knew immediately. Their love
was one that would last decades, and this February would have marked their 70th wedding
anniversary. It stood as a great testimony of their commitment to each other and a great
model of strength and dedication.
Wanda and Floyd lived in Missouri, Ohio, and Tennessee, where they eventually built their
forever home in Lexington, which was designed by Wanda on a napkin. They have four
children, Linda D. Baker Lumley, formerly of Lexington, TN, Deborah K. Baker (Gary
Reeves) of Prescott, Arizona, William F. Baker (Barbara) of Garden Valley, Idaho, and
Donna L. Baker of Lexington, Tennessee. Combined, Wanda had nine grandchildren and
thirteen great grandchildren.
Wanda had a career in retail, starting at the bottom and working her way quite swiftly to a
manager position. She was often described as a strong Christian woman who was selfless
in support of her husband, family, and friends. She served her community through the
Baptist Church and was a member of Sandridge Baptist Church, Lexington, Tennessee at
the time of her death. You didn’t have to be around her long to know she was a great
communicator and made major impacts on the world and people around her.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Linda Lumley, and a grandson
Drew Reeves.
Her service will be held at our facility February 18, 2022 at 1:00 pm with burial to follow.
Lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Wanda’s honor to In Care of the friendship club
at the 1st United Methodist Church in Lexington TN.
